Why You Need to Invest in Eye Care

best-eye-care-productsBecause there is no fountain of youth, we can all use a little help when it comes to caring for your eyes. The skin around your eye area is especially sensitive and thin so you could really be doing more damage than you think. Keep that in mind the next time you wipe the mascara off your eyes or when you have an itch you can’t resist. You may have a plethora of skincare products for your face but if you haven’t invested in eye care, you may want to start. The first signs of ageing appear around your eyes (i.e. crows feet). I have a lot of favourites but at the moment – I’m loving these three eye care products.

1. Japanese Face Mask

So the packaging may be a bit excessive and not exactly environmentally friendly but these disposable eye masks really moisturise and help rejuvenate the skin around the eye naturally. When you’ve had a big night or just haven’t slept for days, it tends to show on your face. 20 minutes with one of these will help you fake good sleep. I’m an advocate of getting adequate sleep but sometimes life just doesn’t allow it. What also helps is putting your legs up against the wall before you go to sleep – cheap botox as they say.

2. Talika

I’ve written about this before but I don’t think it got enough attention the last time I featured it. Our mascara and eye lash curlers can be quite rough on our lashes so I use a conditioner like Talika every other night. We have conditioners for hair so why not eyelashes…makes sense to me. Talika has been around for years so in terms of credibility, I trust them. There’s a sponge tip applicator, to be applied along your lash line and a mascara type wand, to be applied to your eye lashes. I’ve seen some spectacular before and after results. If you’ve lost a few lashes (tip: do not curl your eyelashes after you’ve applied mascara), this is the product to use. $59 at www.mecca.com.au

3. Khiels Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

Everyone raves about this product so I had to pop into Mecca to see what the hype was about. I was sold right about by its buttery texture but also love that a little goes along way- which is good considering it’s $41 for a teeny tiny pot. I’ve been using it for the past week and love it so so much! A must buy if you are into eye care.

4. Eye Lash Extensions

I know this isn’t exactly a ‘product’ but I’m a big fan of efficiency and eye lash extensions give you that, especially in the mornings when you’re rushing from one place to another. What I also love about it that it actually protects the fragile eye area because in having eyelash extensions, you tend to wear less make up…the less makeup you have, the less you’ll need to take off, meaning less strain for the skin around your eyes. Not all lash applicators are the same though. The industry isn’t regulated so you need to be sure your beautician is using a glue that’s safe for the eyes. Ask for one that is free from formaldehyde. Tip: For natural looking lashes that aren’t heavy on your own eyelashes, opt for silk (mink is just over priced hype). For a natural curl, ask for a ‘b’ curl, unless your lashes are really curly. If you’re not sure about the length 11mm is pretty average. If you want more drama, ask for 12mm. This of course, depends on the length of your natural eyelashes. If you’d like a trial, ask your beautician to place a few lashes without the glue first.
