Your girlfriends may give you great life advice but when it comes to dating and relationships, sometimes it’s best to hear it straight from the horse’s mouth…to save us from overanalysing what the smallest actions mean (99% of the time, they don’t mean anything).

Here’s an excerpt but you can download the book for free here – That’s What He Said.

So we gathered your top FAQs and asked 100 men for answers. Here are the highlights.

The survey showed that men are no longer spending 3 months wages on engagement rings, dating older women is no longer taboo and yes you no longer need to be a prude – if you sleep with him on the first date, he’ll ask you out again.

The survey conducted asked 100 men from age 18-45 and found the old dating ‘rules’ have changed:

On Sleeping Together on the First Date:

69% of men said they would not think of a woman differently if she slept with him on the first date and 65% said they would be likely to ask her out again.

On Dating an Older Woman:

When asked if they’d date an older woman, 51% of men said they would probably date a woman who is 5-10 years older than him but it would depend on the woman.

On Women Earning More Money:

When it comes to women earning more money, most men were fine with it. Almost 67% of men surveyed said the’d be pretty comfortable with their partner making more money than them.

On Getting Engaged:

31% of the men surveyed said they’d date their girlfriend for 3+ years before getting engaged followed by, 2 years – 23%, 1 year – 19%, 3 years – 16%, 7-12 months – 10% and 1 month – 1%.

Not surprisingly, younger men tend to date longer till they get engaged, whilst older men may be quicker to pop the question (more in the book on this).

On How Much He’d Spend on an Engagement Ring:

The answers were quite varied and age dependent. There were answers from 1k-20k but one thing is certain, the men surveyed they were no longer aiming to spend 3 months wages on a ring. When it comes to shelling out the cash, younger men were aiming to spend more money on a ring.

50% of men in the 18-25 age bracket said they would spend over 7k on an engagement ring vs 40% of men in the 26-39 age bracket.

As the men get older, they seem to spend less on the ring. 35% of men in the 31-35 age brackets and 43% of men from 36-40 would spend over 7k. Only 12% of men in the 41-45 age bracket would spend the same amount.
