Online dating has morphed into such a beast, you almost have to ‘market’ yourself to cut through the clutter. I liken having a great profile to making a great first impression – it’s something you get to do once.

I’m not suggesting you need to ‘market’ yourself at all, it suggests a deceiving pre-tense. However, I do believe in presenting the best version of your authentic self. Having spoken to dozens of men on this topic, I’ve rounded up 10 things men wish you knew about dating profiles.

1. Where’s Waldo…

“Everyone scans. Don’t have multiple profile photos of you and your bffs – we won’t know who you are…and we probably won’t spend much time to figure it out” – Matt, 36

2. Limit Your Selfie Pics

“One or two says you didn’t have time to phone a friend to help you take your profile pics. Two or more selfies just says you’re self obsessed.” – Nick, 29

3. Don’t Be Boring

“Pictures tell 100 words but pictures can only take you so far…don’t leave your bio blank. It gives us nothing to work with if we want to start a conversation with you”. – Chad, 36

4. Lose the Shades

“There’s nothing worse than seeing a profile where a woman is wearing sunglasses in all her pictures. It makes me wonder if she’s hiding something”. – Arie, 27

5. The Party Photos

“If you are NOT looking for a quick hookup, don’t have pictures of you drinking in every other photo. It sends a confusing message to us all”. – Brett, 37

6. Photos from 5 Years Ago are Not Recent Photos
