Guy Hot vs. Girl Hot – Who Do You Dress For?

When it comes to fashion, us girls have the latest trends, the fashion statement and the bare essentials to break the bank. Guys on the other hand could wear the same pair of pants and shirts for seasons and look ‘classic’, which is why when it comes to womens fashion they just don’t get it. Remember when harem pants made a comeback? All my guy friends do but not the way we want them to. Harem pants are synonmyous with the sexiness of a onesie – also known to some as birth control. Which prompted the discussion of the week. What is guy hot and what is not? Who do you dress for?

Not Hot (Of course, we’ve noted that each will have a personal preference, this is a general list our panel agreed on)

Harem Pants

Also known as MC hammer pants, the high waist, the baggy fit of harem pants do not flatter despite how trendy it is. While girls can appreciate it newness of it, guys just want to see shape – of which these do not give. In their eyes baggy=daggy. Trade the harems for a pair of J.Brands – universally flattering.

Florals

There’s a fine line between looking feminine or like you’ve borrowed your grandma’s dress with florals. The general rule is that the bigger the flowers, the more nana it will look. Also consider the length and cut of a dress. Maxi flower dress? Probably not one to rock on a date. Opt for a playful jumpsuit or a flirty summer dress.

Fake anything

So the guys we spoke to hate anything fake i.e. fake boobs, fake nails, fake extension, lashes, too much makeup etc. What we noted however was that they only hated it when they noticed it was fake. Point being, if you are going to get some acrylics or lashes put in place, fake it well and opt for a more ‘natural’ look.

Neon

A colour guys just don’t understand: “When I see neon, I think of the 80s and red light districts – neither you’d want to be associated with. Neon is such an obnoxious colour and flattering on noone” – Dan 32

Animal Print

Now I know this keeping coming back as a trend and whilst we were able to dodge it this season, there’s no doubt that there are still a few of us clinging onto our favourite leopard pieces. Why do guys hate animal print so much? “Because we associate leopard and zebra prints with prostitutes and old women” – Jack 30. To guys, animal prints are trashy. “Channel the animal instinct elsewhere”.
