Things to Do in Las Vegas

IMG_1165Our Guide to Vegas – The Couples Edit

Most guides to Las Vegas will tell you where to party and gamble but I don’t drink and my idea of gambling is investing in property on the Monopoly (as in…the game) strip. So this is an edit of things to do in Las Vegas. Aside from the boobs, beer and throwing away of money at slot machines, Vegas really is a playground for everyone. Here’s a quick guide on where to stay, where to eat and if you’re game – where to get married in Vegas.

What to Do:

See a Show

There are always a few Cirque de Soleil shows going but if you’re looking for one that’s not so pg-13, opt to see Zumanity playing at New York New York hotel for acrobatics, theatre, humour and drama. Tickets start at around $69. If you are staying at New York New York, you might be able to get a package deal. If not and you’d like to score cheap tickets, visit a Tix 4 Tonight booth (they are everywhere but try Showcase Mall, New York New York, Planet Hollywood and Fashion Show Mall) , they sell half priced tickets at select shows every night.

If you’re looking to indulge in some old school Vegas, see the Jubliee for classic showgirl can-can type dancing. For something more x-rated, check out Fantasy – a new striptease show starring dancers that can belt out a tune.

Go to a Concert

Don’t judge us but we went to see pop legend Britney Spears at Planet Hollywood. The theatre was small so even though we sat in the back, we still got a decent view of her. She sang all of her greatest hits and performed like the Britney we knew in 2000. She didn’t speak or engage with the fans much but come on, we really were there to see her perform anyway. Tickets start at $79.

If Britney isn’t your cup of tea, Justin Timberlake and Boyz to Men are set to make an appearance. Check TicketMaster to find upcoming shows.

Grab a burger at Shake Shack, New York’s city famed burger joint.

There’s so much to see on the strip that we recommend you staying on it. Our hotel pick – Planet Hollywood for its central location and Bellagio of convenience and indulgence. Each hotel has a theme so to speak so it’s worthwhile browsing through. I liked the Mirage for its baby tiger cubs and New York New York, complete with its own Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge and Shake Shack!

For a view from top, take a ride on the High Roller’s the strip’s new observatory deck. It’s a giant ferris wheel that reaches 500m. You can get a decent view from the top. The best time to go is at 4pm. The 30min ride will take you from day to night so you can get day and night views of the strip. Oh it’s also cheaper to go during the day so you can save a few dollars.

Get Married

I’m not sure if people do this but there were a few chapels so I guess there is supply for the demand. Hotels like the Bellagio have them but if you’re looking for the small chapels you see in movies, try La Bella wedding chapel.

The Premium Outlets at the North end were amazing. Definitely worth a trip i.e. 7 jeans for $50, J Crew sweaters at $20/each, Kate Spade sunnies for $30. Buy a 24 hour ticket for $8 (you’ll need exact change) and pay before boarding. The express stops are from Paris Paris and Wynn.

Useful Things to Note

Tipping: 15-20% is typical at restaurants and taxis

Drinks at Casinos: If you’re playing, drinks are free. Be sure to tip the wait staff if you want them to come back.

Smoking: is allowed indoors

Getting There: A taxi to your hotel on the strip will cost $20-$30. There are also shuttles you can take but you might need to wait a bit longer.
