The Longest Ride Movie Review

I love Nicholas Sparks. His books aren’t the literary classics of this generation but just like a ham & cheese croissant, you just need a bit of ham. I loved The Notebook but since Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams graced us with their undeniable on screen chemistry, it has made all the other NS movies a bit…lack lustre. Which is why when we were invited to see The Longest Ride, I had very low expectations. To my surprise, it was actually pretty good. But, not all will agree. I took one of my guy friends with me so all the ladies who are thinking about taking their boyfriends to this can rethink doing that.
The Longest Ride Movie Review (from a girl):
City girl meets small town North Carolina (cow) boy. They find themselves in a chance encounter with a much older man (Ira) who shares with them a love story that has some (loose) parallels with theirs. Several bits of the movie are reminiscent of the notebook and a few scenes could have been disastrously cheesy but Alan Alda’s acting pulled at heart strings and drew tears from viewers all around. The chemistry between Britt Robertson and Scott Eastwood was believable…so much better than any of the pairings I’ve seen from recent Nicholas Sparks movies. All in all – it was good…especially if you’re into that hunky cowboy type of guy.
The Review from a Guy’s Point of View:
It was ‘Farmer Wants a Wife’ at the movies. All the women in the theatre went giddy once they saw a cowboy. You have the cliche art student who falls in love with the rogue attractive guy. Several parts of the movie were not indicative of real life, it was just to make girls cry. It’s just a feel good movie. I want 2 hours of my life back please.
So there you have it. If you’re looking for a good cheesy romance with a Nicholas Sparks type of twist and ending, buy some popcorn, grab some tissues and enjoy…just don’t bring your boyfriend along.
