I love buying presents. I genuinely feel satisfied when I know I’ve given a friend something they will love. I have to admit though now that my friends and I are a bit (a lot) older, they aren’t many things on the ‘need’ list. If we want something that bad, we just go out and buy it ourselves – the perks of not having children (yet). The past few birthdays, I’ve struggled to find gifts for the girl(s) who have everything. If you need some gift ideas for your girlfriends’ birthday or just because, I’ve rounded up my fail-proof gift ideas she will love.
Sephora Favourite – Give Me Some Lip Collection $43.59
You can never have enough lip sticks/glosses in neutral tones, which is why Sephora’s Give Me Some Lip Collection is a universally flattering hit. There are 6 products in this gift set from pretty awesome brands including Tarte and Fresh Sugar. The pretty packaging also helps.
2. Silk Pillowcase 100% Organic $49.99
Much like candles, silk pillowcases are something you’d want but hesitate to splash out on because it’s such an indulgent item. I recently spent $90 on a single pillowcase but since then I’ve found a cheaper and organic version. If you read my beauty posts you will know that I frequently recommend sleeping on a silk pillowcase. It prevents sleep lines and it is gentle on the skin and hair.
3. Something Personalised by The Daily Edited $89.95
You can never go wrong with something that’s personalised so long as it’s tasteful. I’ve had my eye on a monogrammed clutch from The Daily Edited for awhile now. It’s leather and looks well made without the designer label prices. Perfect for the #girlboss in your life.
4. Little Flowers $30 (for Sydney-siders)
Most florists are either really expensive or cheap and tacky but I’ve always been impressed with Little Flowers. For $35, you get to surprise a friend with a beautiful little bouquet of flowers, freshly picked daily. If you have a specific bunch of flowers in mind, you may want to take note – they dispatch whatever is available that day. If she only loves tulips, you might want to reconsider.
5. Victoria’s Secret Pyjamas $78
It’s easy to get complacent with your daggy but oh so comfortable pjs. She may not even realise she needs a new set of pjs. The night shirt pictured here is probably the most comfortable pjs I own at the moment. I love gifting pjs because sizing is so much easier to gauge.
6. Miniature Diffusers and Candles $49
Whether it’s a birthday or house warming, home fragrances are always welcomed. Candles and diffusers make the perfect gift – who doesn’t love them? These gift sets from Circa Home are awesome – they look great and are reasonably priced. I stock up gift sets like these during Christmas time, you can always change up the packaging so don’t worry about the Christmas themed boxes.
These are just some of my go-to gift ideas. If you’re feeling ambitious and want to venture from this list I’d stay away from buying:
- Perfumes – Unless you know her favourite fragrance, I’d avoid this altogether. Perfumes smell different on everyone and can be a hit or miss
- Gift cards – Too impersonal
- Cash – See note above
- Clothes – It’s a risky one, even if you get sizing right, it might not fit right
- Anything when you’re in a rush. If you really get stuck for ideas, tell her you’re waiting to get her something perfect
Packaging and unwrapping the gift is part of the experience. I always have a wrapping paper, bows, ribbon, stamps, stamp pads and blank cards available. Buy them in bulk so you never have to stress about wrapping last minute presents.
