How to Manage Your Skin Breakouts Before a Date

Nothing ruins the excitement of a big day more than a breakout, regardless of where it is on your body. Confidence comes from being comfortable in your own skin but that’s not always easy. I recently spoke to the founders of BUTT’NE, an Australian-first 3-step skincare regime, that’s specifically made with active ingredients to treat and prevent breakouts, uneven texture and scarring on the butt, thighs and bikini line.
We asked:
What can someone do if they have a breakout right before a date?
What skincare routine should someone take on if they’re prepping for a big date out?
Less is definitely more: “As much as you might want to use all of the products in your cabinet – don’t introduce any new products you haven’t used, as this is a sure way to trigger or worsen a flare up! Try and stay clear of things like Lactic Acid, Vitamin C, new masks or a super hydrating product (unless you feel mega dry) as these will likely flare it up. Hydrate your body and take that greens powder you were meant to ages ago”, says Co-Founder of BUTT’NE Sarah.
Prep your skin on the day
On the day hydrate your skin, ice any sore spots, and spot treat with a blemish treatment concealer that will help shrink the spot whilst you wear it. Mattify your skin with your favourite clearing/oil absorbing moisturiser and then tinted spf 50 +. Put on your fave lipstick or accessories and forget about your skin. If you focus on it, that will likely show the lack of confidence. Most people don’t even notice a tiny breakout anyway, enjoy your date and focus on them! Remember you are more than just your skin 🙂
Manage, don’t scrub
Sometimes the inevitable happens. Co-Founder Kiyomi takes a different approach: “Make sure the lights are off if I’m going to take my pants off – lol!”. Alternatively, I’d cleanse the area with BUTT’NE of course, and pop the elixir on my butt to help soothe it. Also, I’d probably pinch off any whiteheads because it’s a pimple! My number one rule when prepping for an event, date, or any time I feel a breakout coming on is not to scrub. Scrubbing does not equal elimination of those bad boys, and often just makes it worse! Just make sure your booty, or any effect area is properly hydrated, and this will take away the angry looking breakout l

- Don’t ever skip skincare when you stay at someone’s house

Ultimately you’ll probably care way more about your pimples than your date
When you think about the grand scheme of things, you having a breakout isn’t going to be a deal breaker if someone is really into you. Kiyomi puts it into perspective “I was really self-conscious of my bum and face breakouts when I first started dating again. As hard as it can be, the less makeup the better! A date does not care as much about a new pimple on our butt or our chin as we do, honestly. From my experience, make sure your face or booty is hydrated, it really does look amazing to have glowy skin, even with a couple of blemishes. Confidence always wins”.
